The Dominion League player
evaluations will be conducted on Saturday, February 16, at
assigned evaluation times (3 minute intervals). Tryout cards will be mailed to registered players.
The actual evaluation process takes approximately 15 minutes. Players should report to the
designated field 30 minutes prior to their assigned evaluation time. This will allow them
to get registered, get a number pinned on, and receive an explanation of what to expect
and how to proceed. This will also allow additional time prior to your
reporting time to properly warm up. The whole process should take no more than
35 minutes.
If for some reason a player
cannot report at the assigned time, please contact the Player Agent, Tom Naughton
(703-323-0563) at the first opportunity.
How it works:
Each player will start at home
plate with the opportunity to hit 5 baseballs from a pitching machine. After hitting, the
player then receives four defensive evaluations; 1st base (throws from SS, 2nd
base (throws from CF), Shortstop (fielding ground balls and throwing to 1B), and
Centerfield (catching fly balls and throwing to 2nd base). The rotation through
the positions as new batters step in takes about 15 minutes. Evaluation completed.
The first 5 players for each
session will have to rotate a few extra times to begin the flow through the 4 defensive
positions.
Junior
Tryouts - Spring 2002
13
year old Junior League player evaluations will be conducted
outdoors at the Robinson Junior Varsity field, on Saurday,. Feb. 23rd,

year old Junior League player evaluations will be conducted
outdoors at the Robinson Junior Varsity field, on Sunday, Feb. 24th, time
TBD. Please call Dianne Hortsman at
703-472-9581 if you have any questions.
The actual evaluation process takes approximately 15
minutes. Players should report to the field ready to go on the field 10 minutes prior to
their assigned evaluation time. This will allow them to get registered, get a number
pinned on, and receive an explanation of what to expect and how to proceed. Please
allow additional time prior to your reporting time to properly warm up.
Warm ups are up to each individual candidate. The whole process should take no more than
35 minutes.
All returning players from Junior
American teams in 2000 are not required to be evaluated. They remain assigned to their
2000 teams.
This process was used for the
2000 Junior League player evaluations and proved to be very efficient, requiring only
minimal time at the field, so long as everyone arrived on time. It is imperative players
are on time, and, if for some reason they cannot report at their assigned time they
contact the Player Agent, Dianne Horstman (703-250-7622) at the first opportunity.

candidates, as determined by the Player Agent.
Player
Participation
Rules governing the skill level at
which players will participate in Fairfax Little League are covered in the Fairfax Little
League Local Rules. The following reiterates Local Rule 5.8
(Special Provisions):
5.8 Special
Provisions. It is the intent of Fairfax Little League that players
participate at the level which is appropriate for their skills and abilities:
However, any Minor League player who refuses to be drafted to a higher level is subject
to sanctions based on the following excerpt from the Official Little League Handbook and
Manual:
"The Minor League program is
the responsibility and is an integral part of the chartered Little League. It is
not, and may not be operated as a separate entity. It must be restricted to the
boundaries of the local league and its players are subject to selection by draft or
auction by any team of the local league. Refusal of a player to comply shall result
in forfeiture of eligibility for the current season."
NOTE: It is NOT the intention
of this rule that players who refuse to be drafted shall forfeit eligibility to continue
participation in Little League, but rather that they forfeit further eligibility for
advancement to a higher league level during the current season. However, it is
unfair for a child of exceptional ability to play in a league level that is obviously
below their skill level. Should a player of such exceptional ability refuse
advancement to a higher league level, the League Committee shall recommend proposed
sanctions to the Board for approval. No sanction will be announced or imposed
without the approval of the Board of Directors. Additionally, a player who, at the
time of the draft, declines an assignment to a Major League team or requests that they not
be assigned to a Major League team, will be ineligible for advancement to a Major League
team for the duration of the season.

Please plan on traffic delays due to
rush hour. We know that the NVBA facility is not close to Fairfax and may be a
hardship for some. However, due to the restrictions on the use of high schools this
year, we had to seek other evaluation sites. Fairfax Little League Board of
Directors would like to thank Brian Snyder, General Manager of NVBA, for his generosity in
providing his facility for our use.
