The Fairfax Junior
Division is an expansion of the Little League to accommodate young people who
are league ages 13 and 14. The game is played on a 90 foot field, the
same as high school and college baseball.
Selection on a Junior Division team is made through the draft system.
Player evaluations are held in February.
This past season the Junior
games were played at Robinson High School, Woodson High School and Frost
Intermediate School.
The Fairfax Little League
Board experimented in 1996 with two 13-year-old Junior teams playing
interleague games with neighboring leagues. In 1997 the Fairfax Little
League Board voted to expand the Junior Program. As a result, there were
eight teams of 13-year-olds in the Junior Division. The 1998 season was
particularly rewarding. There were seven Junior teams and they played a
20 game schedule. There were two All-Star teams that made it to the final 3 in
the District 10 Tournament, with the Dominion Junior team winning the District
championship. The team then went on to play in the Virginia State
Tournament in Richmond.
At the beginning of the 1999
season, the Fairfax Little League Board expanded the Junior Division to include
13 and 14 year olds. This past season there were 12 Junior teams that
played a 20 game schedule. There were three All-Star teams with one team making
it to the final game.
This coming year promises to
be another exciting year for our Junior Division with the increase of 90 foot
fields. Fairfax County has agreed to replace the backstop and skin the playing
surface at Frost Intermediate School, replace the backstop at Robinson High
School, and create a new 90 foot field at Bonnie Brae.
Stay tuned for Juniors Teams
and schedules in the Spring!
